7th Indiana Light Artillery

The 7th Indiana Light Artillery reenactment group was first established in 1998. We are focused on keeping history alive by educating everyone about what life was like for all soldiers during the civil war.  Our group is made up of men and women from different walks of life, all of which are very passionate about this country and ensuring the survival of this nations history.

Our cannon is made from a solid mold milled to the exact specs from the smithsonian institute.  The limber and all other components on the cannon itself were hand made to the exact specs of an original 3" ordinance cannon from 1861.

The Original 7th Indiana Light Artillery

The battery was organized in Indianapolis, Indiana and mustered in for a three year enlistment on December 2, 1861. It was mustered in under the command of Captain George R. Swallow. The battery lost a total of 29 men during service; 1 officer and 6 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded, 22 enlisted men died of disease.  It is said that this group of extremely skilled men once shot a confederate scout off of his horse with the cannon as he rode away to warn the confederate army of their wareabouts.
